Fox News Host’s “Beyonce Voters” Quip Inspires Must-See Tumblr

Earlier this week, Fox News host Jesse Watters was slammed for a term he coined: “Beyonce voters.” A new, must-see Tumblr, simply titled “Beyonce Voters,” adds to the criticism.

The Tumblr pair photos of Barack Obama (“SURFBORT”), Hillary Clinton and female Supreme Court justices like Ruth Bader Ginsburg (above) with Beyonce lyrics. It’s a a move inspired by both the singer’s self-titled album and her “Bow Down” single art, in light of the recent Hobby Lobby decision. And now, some quick politics: On June 30, the Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that businesses like the craft store Hobby Lobby can be exempt from helping to pay for employees’ birth control, while protected by religious freedom.

The term “Beyonce voters” arose when Watters decided to respond to Clinton’s hefty criticism of the Hobby Lobby decision.

“Hillary Clinton needs the ‘Single Ladies’ vote,” he said. “I call them the Beyonce voters – the single ladies. Obama won single ladies by 76 percent last time, and they made up about a quarter of the electorate. They depend on government, because they’re not depending on their husbands. They need things like contraception, health care, and they love to talk about equal pay.”

Watters’ own mother has since called him insensitive, while other critics accused him of targeting single black women in particular.

Ginsburg, one of the most vocal detractors of the ruling, appears in some of the Tumblr’s best images, including one inspired by Beyonce’s “Run the World (Girls).”
