Robyn Says She Was Depressed Before Recording ‘Do It Again EP’ With Royksopp

We know and love Swedish Queen Of Pop Robyn best for her teardrops-at-the-disco electronic anthems, from “Be Mine!” to “With Every Heartbeat” to “Dancing On My Own.” But as it turns out, the heartbreak behind the music got a little too real.

“I was super tired and kind of depressed and had started therapy,” she revealed to NME about the process of creating the Do It Again EP with Norwegian electronic duo, Röyksopp. “I really wanted to make music, and I had lots of ideas, but I didn’t want to force anything, or create a concept of what the next album was going to be; I just wanted to collaborate with people.”

It’s a somewhat surprising revelation to come from the Swede-pop princess, considering her usual bubbly, energetic on-stage demeanor. Even Röyksopp even described collaborating with Robyn as stealing “a piece of the sun” to NME. Lucky for everyone involved, the collaboration proved creatively fruitful — “Do It Again” is one of our Top 20 favorite releases of 2014 so far! — and the two titans of Swede Pop are now out on tour across North America and doing it big on late night TV.
