Kanye West Declares He’s “The Smartest Celebrity,” Shades Britney Spears In Court Deposition

It’s just another day in the circus-like life of Kanye West. You may recall that physical altercation the Yeezus MC got into back in 2013 with photographer Daniel Ramos at LAX — a criminal case that led to him doing 250 hours of community service, attending 24 anger management sessions and receiving two years probation? There is still the civil case filed by the photographer to deal with, but in the meantime, TMZ claims to have gotten their hands on rapper West’s deposition transcripts.

The site only posted a few choice quotes from Kanye, one of them being this doozy: “I’m the smartest celebrity you’ve ever fucking dealt with. I’m not Britney Spears.” Ouch.

Kanye reportedly also got into it with the photographer’s lawyer Nate Goldberg when Goldberg quoted the line “till I get flashed by the paparazzi, damn, these ni**as got me” from West’s 2008 song “Flashing Lights.”

“You have to ask for a hall pass. You can’t just say the ‘n’ word around me,” West is quoted as saying in response, by TMZ. “It offends me because you’re a white person saying ‘ni**a’.”

That apparently brought about the following rant by the rapper, in which Kanye likens the inequality celebrities face (um…) to the inequalities of African Americans that led to the civil rights movement in the 1960s:

“I mean in the ’60s people used to hold up ‘Die N****r’ signs when my parents were in the sit-ins also… Yes, 100 … I equate it to discrimination. I equate it to inequalities. We, as group of minorities here in L.A., as celebrities have to ban together to influence guys like this — guys trying to take the picture, guys trying to get the big win, guys trying to get the check.”

As utterly bananas as this all sounds to us non-celebrities who lead normal, equality-filled lives, Kanye at least still sounds way less obnoxious here than Justin Bieber did in his deposition over a similar paparazzi beatdown.

Well, except for that Britney jab…
