The Age Of The Social Media Star Is Upon Us: Jack And Jack Murder iTunes With “Wild Life”

Remember when TV shows like American Idol and X Factor used to produced actual pop stars? Well, those days are long gone. Instead, social media is the new incubator of talent. The Janoskians first leveraged their popularity on YouTube to get a record deal but 15-year-old Vine star Shawn Mendes was the first act to make the transition from internet phenomenon to actual iTunes success with “Life Of The Party”.

That song reached number one on the download chart and propelled his self-titled debut EP to a top five birth on the Billboard 200. Australian vlogger Troye Sivan soon followed in his footsteps with wildly popular single “Happy Little Pill” and now Vine rappers Jack And Jack come just as hard with “Wild Life”. The undeniably catchy hip-hop/pop anthem, which includes the unfortunate lyric “everybody hangin’ like a string from a Tampax”, is already number two on iTunes ahead of much-hyped singles like Jessie J‘s “Bang Bang” and Nicki Minaj‘s “Anaconda”. Listen after the jump.
