Asheville, North Carolina native Caleb Johnson made no secret of his penchant for good old rock and roll during his winning stint on American Idol earlier this year. Whether he was belting out classics on the show like “Sympathy For The Devil” or “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around,” or taking on newer hits like Adele‘s “Skyfall” and Imagine Dragons‘ “Radioactive,” Johnson let it be known that the bigger the voice of the original singer, the more willing he was to challenge himself by trying his luck with the songs.

Now, with Caleb’s debut LP Testify out this week (on August 12), we decided to pick the singer’s brain on which artists he thinks are more badass. We pitted the boys against the girls, because, let’s face it — rock doesn’t discriminate by gender; you’ve either got it or you don’t.

Watch above as Caleb decides who rocks more from the pairing-up we did of the legendary ladies of music with equally grand gents.
