Tinashe Drops The Follow-Up To “2 On”: Listen To Her A$AP Rocky-Assisted Gem “Pretend”

Tinashe cemented her status as R&B’s new ‘it’ girl with breakthrough hit “2 On”. The slinky, ’90s-inspired banger evoked memories of Aaliyah and Cassie (before she became a full-time model) but the rising star widens her soundscape on sublime follow-up single “Pretend”. She’s now bordering on mid-tempo Janet Jackson territory, which is a very good thing.

Produced by Detail and featuring a verse from A$AP Rocky, the languid synth-jam finds Tinashe ruminating on the state of her relationship. She somewhat sadly suggests to her man that they pretend they were right back at the beginning in order to recapture that initial spark and lost trust. Her delicate vocal suits the slick production perfectly and the subtle chorus is a killer. Listen after the jump.
