Suge Knight, former Death Row Records CEO, was reportedly shot while attending Chris Brown‘s pre-VMAs party in West Hollywood’s 1 Oak. TMZ reports that Knight left the nightclub at 1:30 a.m. today (August 24) on his own, though was led by police to an ambulance and is currently undergoing surgery. Some sources say Knight was shot twice, others that he was shot six times.

The reasons why shots were fired is also still unknown. However, Brown seemed to confirm that shots were fired by retweeting TMZ’s report, then airing out his own feelings. “It’s disappointing that we as a society can’t have fun or enjoy ourselves without any altercations sometimes,” the X star and VMA nominee said on Twitter. “Miss me with the bullshit!!!”

Knight co-founded Death Row in 1991, to sign and work with rappers (Dr. Dre, Tupac, Snoop Dogg) who helped lay the foundation for the West Coast hip-hop movement. Five years later though, while on probation for charges including attempted murder, Knight was arrested for violating his parole. Death Row suffered during his absence, as his biggest acts moved on.
