Rising New York City songbird VÉRITÉ was just getting warmed up with “Strange Enough,” the debut single that caught the online world’s imagination in July. She’s back with new offering “Weekend,” which, if you just stick to the surface, will likely keep the Ellie Goulding and Lana Del Rey comparisons coming. But listen a little closer and you’ll hear a singer-songwriter with a knack for savvy lyrics and attention-grabbing melodies on the verge of breaking out big.

Today Idolator is premiering dramatic new song “Weekend,” which is as energizing as it is melancholy. Head below to give it a listen.

VÉRITÉ describes her latest single this way: “Conceptually it came from a snapshot of a scenario. An old friend of mine lived on this quiet, dead end residential street with bright florescent lights. I had the image of us falling down in the stillness of the scene. From the first line, the song winds up being an ode to the nostalgia of how, despite how sick we were or how insane things get, we can take moments from the craziest times and glorify them as being absolutely perfect.”
