Maroon 5’s ‘V’ Bumps Ariana Grande’s ‘My Everything’ Off The Top Of The Album Chart
Maroon 5‘s fifth album V arrives at the top of the Billboard 200 on the strength of 164,000 copies sold in its first week — enough to send Ariana Grande sailing down to #4 with My Everything, though still a far cry from the Adam Levine-fronted band’s opening week with previous album Overexposed (220,000). Billboard points out that M5 topped the main album chart one other time, with 2007’s It Won’t Be Soon Before Long, which opened with 429,000.
On their last outing, Overexposed arrived on the heels of two hit singles: The radio juggernauts “Moves Like Jagger” (which topped the Hot 100) and “Payphone,” a song that peaked at #2 and was eventually certified five-times Platinum.
While lead V single “Maps” has become a decent-sized hit, it didn’t quite have the impact the previous-mentioned smashes from the band did with the masses. The single failed to crack the Top 5 on the Hot 100, and has sold 1 million downloads to-date.
