Take That partnered up with producer Greg Kurstin for “These Days,” the lead single off the UK band’s upcoming seventh album III. Kurstin is just one of four announced producers who took part in the LP, with the others being John Shanks, Stuart Price and Electric Light Orchestra legend Jeff Lynne. Shanks had previously produced Take That’s 2006 comeback LP Beautiful World and 2008’s The Circus, while Price was behind the group’s previous studio album, 2010’s Progress, as well as follow-up EP Progressed in 2011.

As for “These Days,” it’s a far more straightforward pop affair than we’ve grown accustomed to from Gary Barlow & Co. since their 2006 return. A throwback to Take That’s early ’90s boy band days, it’s not that much of a stretch imagining more junior acts like One Direction or The Vamps belting this one out.

“These Days” will be released on November 23 in the UK. Listen to it below.

III has a December 1 release date in the UK. The album is so-titled because onetime member Jason Orange officially announced his departure from Take That recently, and Robbie Williams is on hiatus again. Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald explained this morning that Orange was given until the very last minute to decide whether or not he wanted to stay with the band.

“We’ve sort of known for the past two or three years that he wasn’t a hundred percent sure that he wanted to make a new record,” Owen said to BBC Radio 2’s Chris Evans. “But at the beginning of this year, because we felt it was time for us, as a band we went into the studio to start writing. Obviously Jay was aware of that. We’d see him, too, in the year and we’d been playing him songs, all the time hoping he’d change his mind.”

Though Take That have fluctuated between being a quintet and a quartet over their 23-year history, this is the band’s first time as a trio. Below is the tracklist for III, which a press release notes “incorporates a mix of styles and sounds influenced by their last three LPs.”
