Whatcha Say: Lady Gaga, Beyonce And Meghan Trainor Got Our Readers Talking

Happy Friday, Idolator readers. We did it. We made it through yet another week of pop!

There’ve been some major releases along the way — from Tinashe‘s Aquarius to Betty Who‘s Take Me When You Go, to Gorgon City‘s Sirens — along with some major premieres. Beyoncé and Nicki Minaj gave us the official “***Flawless” remix performance, Marina And The Diamonds debuted her “Froot” and a newly slimmed down Take That returned with “These Days.”

Over ’round these parts, we interviewed the fantastic Molly Lambert and premiered the Giorgio Moroder remix of Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett‘s Cheek To Cheek jam, “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love.” Naturally, all of the above (and more!) got our readers talking.

Check out some of the week’s best comments after the jump.

:: DavidSask fell in love with Pink‘s new folk duo on Pink And Dallas Green’s You + Me Album ‘rose ave.’: Listen: “I love that this album is a grower not a shower.”

:: PJ wasn’t impressed with Moroder’s Cheek To Cheek remix on Giorgio Moroder’s Remix Of Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga’s “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love”: Idolator Premiere: “So much for wanting to something organic ‘and pure’ (her words) like jazz. These remixes just prove that the whole thing is just another marketing stunt, a very cynical one. And this is probably the worst thing Moroder has ever done, it sounds like those awful fan-made remixes you can find online.”

:: While Rohan had another take on the track: “Well, I don’t really know if that’s really a correct or an even useful way of looking at it. While jazz does have a purity to it, I think it’s incredibly close-minded to even entertain the thought that any other type of music is not. The reality of it is that it brings a different musical perspective to an old classic which can be refreshing! What you apparently see as a ‘marketing stunt’ I would actually call the fostering of young creativity, artistry and musical growth.”

:: And xSushi heard something familiar: “It sounds like my drunk aunt and grandpa at Christmas with a $50 casio piano on a pre-set loop.”

:: Dex Bracewell wasn’t on board when it came to new Guetta on David Guetta And Sam Martin’s “Dangerous”: Listen To The Surprisingly Good Single: “Autotuned Sam Martin. Fake sounding orchestra elements. Comparisons to Drive soundtrack! No thanks!”

:: Chris weighed in on Betty Who‘s debut LP on Betty Who’s ‘Take Me When You Go’: Album Review: “Loved her from the start and we’re both Berklee grads, so I feel an affinity to support her more than others. ‘Somebody Loves You’ is one of the best songs I heard in a long time and I’m picking up this album today. That said, I think she’s very indie compared to the Top 40 schlock jamming stations now, which makes someone as perky and pleasant as Who a harder sell to the kids who want to hear EDM-lite tracks and scuzzy Hip Hop beats. Meghan Trainor came out of nowhere with ‘All About That Bass,’ which I think got as big as it did mostly for the lyrics (it’s a great song, but ‘Somebody Loves You” > ‘All About That Bass’ IMO), so perhaps Who will finally be able to break out.”

:: Matt was perplexed by the success of “All About That Bass” — and Bey’s not-so-missed opportunity on Beyonce Passed On Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” (But Probably Never Heard It): “I understand the song has a good message and all, but honestly this is one of my least favorite songs of the year. It’s just not that great and I don’t understand everyone’s obsession with it. Even as the massive Bey fan that I am, I still don’t think I’d like this song even if Bey sang it.”

:: Brian weighed in as well: “Obviously every element of this song would be changed to fit an artist’s brand and profile, so if it did go to Beyonce it would be way different than the oh-so-quirky, Buzzfeed National Anthem it currently is.”

:: Mark was experiencing Bey boredom on Beyonce & Nicki Minaj’s “***Flawless” Remix: Watch The Official ‘On The Run Tour’ Performance: “I LOVE Beyoncé (maybe even a bit obsessed). And this remix is amazing. And there is nothing wrong with this clip. But for some reason she is boring me a little bit. There are only so many times you can be amazed by her perfection. And despite all the new get-ups and new amazing tunes, there is a similarity to her performances, that as mega fan whose been following closely since she started to hit her solo performance stride (around the Sasha Fierce era) you can’t help but notice. Like, it is new. But not new new. It’s been two years of a lot of perfect Beyoncé. Flawless even. And now even Beyoncé haters are Beyoncé lovers. (Which can be annoying, or not.) It makes me sad that I am getting bored. But I think we have finally hit peak Beyoncé. I think she (or maybe just I?) needs to take a break.”

:: But M.R. couldn’t come up with a solution for Mark: “So what’s your solution? Give bad performances on purpose so that some fans who think she’s too perfect will have something to freak out over?”

:: Jonokk had plenty to say regarding The State Of Kylie on Kylie Minogue Covers “Bette Davis Eyes” For BBC Radio 2′s ‘Sounds Of The ’80s’: Listen To Her Cute Version: “Missed the mark? What mark is that? Kylie never repeats herself in her work, so if you’re looking for a ‘mark’ or expecting another Aphrodite or Fever, it’s not going to happen. Re: Crystallize – Kylie said herself she didn’t include it on Kiss Me Once because it didn’t fit the stylistic vision for that album. Same with Golden Boy. Re: Bettie Davis Eyes – not loving this. She’s made much better cover versions than this (Love Is The Drug, Feels So Good, Monkey Man); whoever produced this has processed all the emotion and warmth out of her voice, I’m just sayin’. I for one don’t want her recreating music from Light Years (that was 14 years ago).”

:: And finally, Whodid? was breathing easy while reading the Mary Lambert interview on Mary Lambert Talks “Secrets”, Finding Fame With “Same Love” & Madonna: Idolator Interview: “In todays world of lip synching, slutty looking pop stars, she is such a breath of fresh air.”
