The Flaming Lips, Miley Cyrus And Moby Cover “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds”: Listen

Finally, the Flaming Lips has debuted its cover of The Beatles‘ “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.” As initially announced, then performed at this year’s Billboard Music Awards, the psychedelic rock band’s take features wistful vocals by Miley Cyrus. However, the studio version also features Moby, techno figurehead and co-conspirator in their LSD-inspired short film “Blonde SuperFreak Steals the Magic Brain.”

Despite the bizarre partnership, it seemed obvious that if the Bangerz star had to cover a Beatles song, it would be “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.” Still, the cover is more electrifying than the original, jangly Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band take and even as it initially seemed live, with its cacophony of explosive percussion and warping radio frequency noises at the hook.

The Flaming Lips’ cover of “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” will appear in its forthcoming Beatles tribute album With a Little Help From My Fwends. Hear the new song at the album’s preorder page.
