Taylor Swift isn’t the only singer/songwriter switching genres in 2014. Brooke Fraser is leaving behind the gentle acoustic-pop of breakthrough albums Albertine and Flags in favor of synth-pop on fourth LP Brutal Romantic. The 30-year-old introduced her new sound on kooky buzz track “Psychosocial” before perfecting it on superb lead single “Kings + Queens”.

The New Zealand superstar, who landed a global hit in 2010 with “Something In The Water”, unveiled the video this week and it finds Brooke singing in and around an abandoned warehouse. It’s not the most glamorous setting for a pop video but the gritty locale somehow feels appropriate for the leather-clad diva’s low-key approach to electronica. Watch her in action up top.
