Selena Gomez took everyone by surprise with new single “The Heart Wants What It Wants”. The Rock Mafia-produced slow jam dropped with little warning yesterday (November 6) and shot straight to number two on iTunes. (Only One Direction‘s latest “Ready To Run” could block it from the top spot). Pretty impressive for a raw ballad about a destructive relationship but it got off to an even better start on radio.

According to Mediabase, “The Heart Wants What It Wants” reportedly reached an audience of 10.061 million people on its first day at radio. Doesn’t sound too impressive? To put things into perspective, Miley Cyrus“Wrecking Ball” was heard by six million folks on debut. The Justin Bieber-referencing anthem also racked up five million+ YouTube views in its first 24 hours. Selena’s greatest hits album For You, which completes her stint at Hollywood Records, drops November 24.
