Well, here’s a polarizing and/or very exciting thing!

Producer Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins is responsible for creating some the best pop hits over the past two decades, from Destiny’s Child‘s “Say My Name” to Lady Gaga‘s “Telephone” to Justin Bieber‘s “As Long As You Love Me.” Next year will officially mark the producer’s 20th anniversary in the music industry, and he wants to celebrate his achievements — by bringing them into the future.

In an interview with HITS Daily Double, the producer revealed that he’s got a “special project” lined up for 2015, where he’ll be releasing originals and “reimagined hits.” “So for example, I’ll do the ‘The Boy Is Mine’ with Ariana [Grande] and Jessie J. Sam [Smith] is doing “It’s Not Right, But It’s Okay” by Whitney Houston, which Sam told me was the song that made him want to sing,” he explained.

Whoa. “The Boy Is Mine” and “It’s Not Right, But It’s Okay” are modern pop classics at this point. Will today’s hottest stars be able to tackle them? Darkchild seems to think so. “Sam’s the truth. He has a great heart and he’s genuine. His music speaks for who he is. This is a project I’m really looking forward to.”

But how about you? Are you looking forward to these reinventions? Let us know in the comments below.
