Whitney Houston‘s event-filled, often controversial and intriguing life is being turned into a movie — and the official trailer is now here! Titled Whitney, the made-for-tv project highlights the legendary singer’s high and low career moments. The promotional clip shows her tumultuous relationship with Bobby Brown, battle with drugs and rising star status.

Oscar-nominated actress Angela Bassett is producing it, with America’s Next Top Model alum Yaya DaCosta playing Houston and Arlen Escarpeta as Brown. Lifetime’s recent biopic for the late Aaliyah was simply an utter mess, so hopefully this new film will cast Houston’s life in the most honest light. But unlike the Aaliyah movie, the network actually has rights to the “You Give Good Love” diva’s most known songs (with Deborah Cox on vocals) — including “Greatest Love Of All,” “I’m Every Woman” and “I Will Always Love You.”

Whitney airs Saturday, January 17 at 8 p.m. EST, followed by Beyond The Headlines: Whitney Houston at 10:00 p.m. EST. Watch the new trailer over at Buzzfeed, who premiered it this morning (December 5).
