As the year comes to an end, Billboard is taking a look back at all the hit-makers that dominated the airwaves in 2014. To do so, they’ve called upon all the #1 artists of the year to grace the cover(s) of their 2014 Year In Music issue. The collection of covers (so far) includes “Stay With Me” crooner Sam Smith, “Fancy” femcee Iggy Azalea, the ever sax-y dirty talker Jason Derulo and Queen Of Bass, Miss Meghan Trainor.

Inside, the artists dish on the truth behind their hit singles. For instance, did you know Sam Smith was scared to perform “Stay With Me” on Saturday Night Live? “I actually begged my team and my label to not do it when we got the call. I thought it would have more impact if I had a song out and on the radio. I was so wrong. I had a story all of a sudden, and I was on people’s iPods in the space of a week,” he reveals. For more behind-the-scenes, check out the sneak peek over at Billboard, and check out the other covers after the jump.
