Selena Gomez upstaged everyone at the American Music Awards with her emotional rendition of “The Heart Wants What It Wants.” The 22-year-old fought back tears throughout the incredible performance, which clearly struck a chord with viewers. The diva’s final single for Hollywood Records — she is now officially an Interscope artist — shot into the iTunes top five and shortly thereafter became her second top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.

The former teen queen, who may or may not be collaborating with Iggy Azalea, now opens up about the epic TV moment in an emotional video diary. “This performance is a little bit frightening,” she admits. “When I had the intention behind the performance I knew that I wanted it to be all of me.” Selena then gets super real. “Somebody asked me a while ago, ‘what’s the one thing you wish people knew about you?’ and I said I wanted it to be my heart.” Watch up top.
