The 15 Best Pop Music Shade-Fests Of 2014
Boy, did the shade run rampant this year in music! We run through some of the best beefs.

Ariana Grande and the Weeknd perform “Love Me Harder,” unplugged, in a video released December 23. The song is currently No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100, its highest chart position so far, though this new version may boost its popularity.

Backstage at an unidentified venue, they sing the Hot 100 hit while backed by a single acoustic guitar. The original, off Grande’s sophomore album My Everything, is intimate as is, with her breathy commands and the Weeknd not sounding depraved for once. (He’s human, after all!) So in comparison, this version only reinforces what most listeners already knew — “Love Me Harder” is great because of their chemistry.

“Love Me Harder” aside, Grande and the Weeknd’s other recent output could not be more different. Just in time for the holidays, Grande released her original Christmas song “Santa Tell Me,” and with an adorable video to match (or two, including the lyric vide0). Meanwhile, earlier this week, the Weeknd released “Earned It” — his contribution to the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack, which also features Beyonce‘s new, haunted rendition of “Crazy In Love.”
