Jordin Sparks Announces New Album
Jordin Sparks is getting right back in the game, and we can't wait!

Jordin Sparks was bound to break her silence on her breakup with Jason Derulo sometime — meaning in an interview; she already gave quite a few eyebrow-raising insights in song lyric form — and she chose Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club radio show to do it on. During a chat with the show’s hosts, Jordin let it be known that Jason didn’t give her any real explanation as to why they split — in fact, he didn’t give an explanation at all. He simply stopped returning her phone calls.

“I haven’t spoken to him since everything went down — even before that,” Sparks said about her breakup five months ago with Derulo. The pair had been together for over three years.

Jordin denied during her interview that she pressured Jason to marry her. That’s when she dropped the news that the two never officially spoke about breaking up.

“We had an argument, or this little tiff or whatever. I apologized because I was like, okay, that came out totally wrong. Then it was just really awkward for a second,” Sparks explained. She said the cause of the argument was “a family type thing.”

She continued, “It just got really awkward, and I was like, I’m sorry, I apologized, and I asked him if we were good. He was like, yeah, we’re good, whatever. So then I leave and he just doesn’t call. But he helped me with my bag to the car. He kissed me. He told me he loved me, and then didn’t call.”

Sparks noted that she’s “the type of person who needs communication,” and explained that she called Derulo repeatedly after their fight. “And so he wasn’t responding, and so I just stopped and I was like, you need to come get your shit,” she said. “He got all of his stuff out of my house.”

Once the conversation on Jordin’s past relationship with Jason was out of the way, she spoke a bit about her upcoming album Right Here, Right Now, which is produced by Salaam Remi.

“I knew I had to get out of my other situation since my last record, which was like five years ago,” Sparks said. “People that were on my team left and the people that were still around didn’t care really what I did. It was just this weird, we don’t know what to do with you but we’re not going to let you go, because somebody might know and we can’t let them get you — so it was just this really weird thing.”

She continued by saying that “Salaam came to my rescue” when the two of them worked together on the movie movie Sparkle:

“He scored the movie, and so we were writing together. Then he got a job at Sony and it just worked out. He saw something in me that nobody else could really see, and he said, ‘Hey, I’ll take her project on,’ and they said, ‘Okay.’ So I moved over from RCA to Louder Than Life, which is an imprint under Sony. So it’s been awesome, because he was the first person to ask me, what do I want to say? What do I want it to sound like? “

Jordin described the album on The Breakfast Club as being a mix of urban and pop. Are you looking forward to her first LP since 2009’s Battlefield? Let us know below!
