The Wanted’s Nathan Sykes Working On Solo Album With Babyface & Diane Warren
We haven’t heard news about Nathan Sykes (or The Wanted, for that matter) since his 2013 “Almost Is Never Enough” duet with former girlfriend Ariana Grande. While the mini pop diva has moved on to another man and new music, the former boy band member is planning some tunes of his own! The soulful crooner has partnered up with songwriting legends like Diane Warren, Babyface and Harmony Samuels for his debut solo album.
Sykes spoke to Hunger TV about his new collaborations: “Working with Diane Warren and Babyface were two of the most surreal days of my life. There is never a dull moment with Diane and she is one of my favorite people on the planet and the session with Babyface produced probably the most honest and emotional song I’ve ever written.”
The singer also touched on his plans for the album, including its sound: “While I’ve kept this as a pop album, I have tried to make something for everyone and have elements of soul, funk, Motown, dance, straight down the line commercial pop, some more stripped back acoustic tracks and there are a couple of piano ballads on there as well,” he said. “I just wanted to make an album that people can really enjoy and that will also translate really well into a live show as I feel that having a great live show is just as important as having a great album.”
He then discussed the transition from band member to becoming a solo act: “On a music front, I wasn’t the most confident song writer but grew quite a lot throughout my time in The Wanted and ended up writing two singles which I think has given me the confidence to write the majority of the album and be strong with my ideas and vision for the record.”
