Coachella 2014: Kid Cudi
Check out photos from Kid Cudi's stellar Coachella set last year.

Kid Cudi is earning points left and right from the LGBT community today.

The talented artist plays the part of a gay man in the upcoming film James White, a drama based on the life of a twenty-something played by Christopher Abbott dealing with personal turmoil that premiered over the weekend at the Sundance Film Festival. (Not only that, he also scored the film.)

In an interview with Billboard on the red carpet before the film’s premiere, the Satellite Flight rapper discussed his intention behind taking on the role, and what it meant in a larger sense than just the film: “I felt like I had a responsibility to present a different walk in life from that world.” Read on to see what else he had to say. According to Cudi, the original treatment for his character involved a coming out scene, as well as a man-on-man kiss with his friend in the movie, played by actor David Call. “I think that’s something the world needs to see. ‘Cause it’s not a thing. We’re all equal,” he explained. Sadly, the titillating scene didn’t make the cut, which he jokingly addressed in the Q&A: “I’m mad [Mond] cut out my kissing scenes with David…we made out so many times — and it was so good! That’s my only gripe.”

He also revealed that shooting the scene didn’t bother him personally: “I didn’t flinch. I’m secure with mine. I’m an artist. It’s all about playing characters that are intriguing and stimulating.” What a refreshingly positive outlook!
