Iggy Azalea Talks Dream Duet Partner
Iggy Azalea says that she'd love to work with the "Work It" rapper, a "big inspiration."

Missy Elliott just revealed that, instead of attending the 57th Grammy Awards this weekend, she will hit the studio with longtime collaborator Timbaland — for what, though, she won’t say.

“I’m actually going down to be with Tim, and so we’re gonna get in and get some work done,” Elliott said on radio show Sway in the Morning. When host Sway Calloway asked if she was working on an album, she added, “I don’t want to say too much, because in this day and time [if] you say something, they will come back two weeks later like ‘Um, where your album at?'”

Keep in mind, Elliott has been working on her follow-up to 2005’s The Cookbook for the past decade. As recently as 2012, she was promoting a comeback album titled Block Party and planned to release it as her debut Supa Dupa Fly turned 15, which never happened. Then last year, Timbaland promised that a new Missy Elliott single was coming. “We got the hollow-tip bullet in the gun. We have the game-changer right there,” he said to Rolling Stone — another unfulfilled promise.

Then again, Elliott did just enter the Hot 100 off the strength of digital song sales, following her surprise appearance during Katy Perry‘s Super Bowl halftime performance. She says that, leading up to her three-song set (“Get Ur Freak On,” “Work It,” “Lose Control”), she had underestimated her appeal even years after her radio and TRL dominance.

“Tbh I didn’t realize how much I was missed til last night,” she said on Twitter. “I’m crying y’all 4give me I just can’t stop thanking God & y’all.”
