Stine Bramsen has been rolling out solo singles since January 2014, and I guess that means Danish pop act Alphabeat are on an even longer hiatus than anticipated. That’s too bad, because while the band’s third album Express Non-Stop went by largely unnoticed outside of their home country in 2012, second album The Spell (or, The Beat Is…, as it was titled in some parts of the world) was pretty brilliant.

Anyway, here we are with Stine’s latest, “Karma Town.” It’s a bit of an old-school soul jam mixed with bombastic modern pop. Bramsen’s vocals soar effortlessly here, proving once more that she’s one of music’s great chameleons, able to adapt to a multitude of well-traveled genres.
