The copyright war continues, but the financial lines have been decidedly un-blurred.

Robin Thicke, Pharrell and T.I.‘s seemingly never-ending lawsuit against the Marvin Gaye estate for their claims of copyright infringement has revealed some of the rather interesting financial figures behind the biggest hit of 2013.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the song made $16,675,690 in total. From that, $5,658,214(about 34%) went to Robin Thicke, $5,153,457(about 31%) went to Pharrell (that’s $4.3 million in publishing royalties and $860,000 in producer royalties. Translation: get into the publishing side of the business, songwriters) and $704,774 (about 4%) went to T.I. 

The remaining amount — about $5.2 million (or about 31%) — went to the record label Universal Music. At the same time, an exec from the label claimed that “overhead costs” for creating the song tallied up to $6.9 million. (Hmm…if only that number was broken down further!)

The fight wages on in court, and THR reports that Gaye’s children will now come after the tour money, roughly $11 million, accumulated based on the success of “Blurred Lines.” Mess.
