It’s quite clear that us editors at Idolator are lovers of pure pop music, but we do enjoy other genres as well! Our latest discovery is Steve Grand, a singer-songwriter from Chicago who caught the media’s attention back in 2013 — thanks to his “All-American Boy” video. Critics deemed him the “first openly gay country artist,” but there is more to the singer’s music than that.

Today (March 9), we are premiering Grand’s new single — titled “Whiskey Crime.” It actually leans toward the pop/rock spectrum than country, due to the tune’s fuzzy electric guitar riffs, energetic percussion and the singer’s confident and gritty vocals that mimic the tough edge of the favored liquor.

“I’ve been looking forward to releasing ‘Whiskey Crime’ to my fans for a long time. There are a lot of things about this song I think people will love,” Grand says about the tune. “I wrote the drum part note for note, and I think it makes for a really unique groove that will catch the listener’s attention, in addition to making actual drummers scratch their heads.”

Look out for Steve Grand’s Kickstarter-funded debut album All American Boy on March 24, and take a listen to “Whiskey Crime” below!
