We Don’t Know What’s Going On With ‘American Idol’ Anymore, But Salt-N-Pepa Performed “Push It” & It Was Iconic

Admittedly, we haven’t watched American Idol since last year. Actually scratch that — we haven’t watched Idol in three years; we simply paid a freelance writer to watch for us and recap the previous two year here on the site.

Yes, Caleb Johnson won the crown in 2014 — we only know this because he came into the Idolator office last summer for an interview — but trying to remember who emerged victorious from the show the year before that and then the year before that is an exercise in futility.

So anyway, one thing did catch our eye with regards to AI: Salt-N-Pepa and Boy George made appearances this week. The Culture Club frontman walked on stage while the Top However-Many contestants awkwardly butchered “Karma Chameleon,” a song that was likely at the top of the charts a good 10 years before any of them were born, while Salt-N-Pepa showed everyone in sight how it’s done by rocking out a hot rendition of “Push It.”

All in all, we’d say Salt and Pepa killed it. J.Lo knew what was up. She rose to her feet and shimmied along as much as the skin-tight dress she was wearing would allow while the two ladies belted out their rap classic.
