Sean Hayes (And Hubby) Lip Sync "Trouble": Watch
'Will & Grace' actor Sean Hayes takes on Iggy Azalea and Jennifer Hudson's hit.

As a solo artist, Nick Jonas has tried hard to prove that he’s grown. Sometimes, he tries a little too hard.

So it was refreshing to see Jonas at ease as he opened the 2015 Kids Choice Awards last night (March 28). While backed by teen metal band Unlocking the Truth, Jonas had younger fans screaming and older members of the audience (Modern Family‘s Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Meghan Trainor) smiling stupidly as he belted “Chains” and “Jealous.” When he isn’t worrying so much about his sex appeal, this boy band member-turned-R&B singer actually has charisma.

(That is, when he’s singing. As host, Jonas poked fun at Zayn Malik leaving One Direction by summing up the fiasco as “Two Direction.” “What’s next, Fourth Harmony? The Jonas Brother?” he said. Kids shrieked in delight anyway, those good sports.)

Speaking of charm: Jennifer Hudson had plenty of it when she and Iggy Azalea performed their soulful Reclassified single “Trouble,” as she sang with attitude and strutted like she means business. (Azalea was fine; her energy was just low.) And to close the awards show, 5 Seconds of Summer covered The Romantics‘ “What I Like About You” as they slowly, but surely got slimed.

The best use of slime, though, goes to surprise guest Jennifer Lopez. When Jonas won for Favorite Male Singer, Lopez cued the slime only to flinch when a single drop seemed to go in her direction.
