During a sitdown with MTV, Hilary Duff discussed her long-awaited follow-up album to 2007’s Dignity, something her fans have been eager to get their hands on since last year’s release of singles “Chasing The Sun” and “All About You.” But given that a brand new, upbeat Duff single called “Sparks” (which she collaborated on with singer-songwriter Tove Lo, as well as producers Bloodshy and Peter Thomas) arrived this week, things seem to finally be moving in the right direction to get the LP out there.

“The album is a range of stuff. I would say definitely in the beginning when I started writing, it was pretty heavy, coming out of my past year of — life,” Hilary told MTV during a video interview, which you can watch below.. “It’s changed since then, which is good because I think that the overall theme too — me, personally, I’m not this super heavy girl. You know? I’m one for the sunshine, so it’s shifted a lot and it feels a lot better to me.”

Duff continued by further describing the sound of the album, and revealed that it will contain a song about her three-year-old son Luca, which is called “This Heart.”

“There’s a lot of dance — but it is heartfelt,” Hilary said. “A lot of the songs are about love, a lot of them around about loss, one of them is about Luca. It’s just more easy. It’s not super heavy material. I’m excited for people to hear it. I’m excited about the place we got it to.”

And people will hear it…well, not so fast. So far, there is still no release date for Hilary’s newest set of tunes. So until then, you’ll just have to make due with “Sparks” and her acting stint on new Darren Star-created series Younger.
