Carly Rae Jepsen has talked before about how Sinead O’Connor‘s cover of Prince‘s “Nothing Compares 2U” has influenced her music, including her third album. “That sparked something for me, and then I was sort of off to the races,” she told us in an interview. “I think my heart and soul does stick very much in the ’80s, because I feel that was the purest pop at its finest, like the emotional ’80s.”

“The emotional 80s” — turns out, that was a hint! Last night (April 10), a week after she debuted the ’80s-indebted ballad “All That,” Jepsen has revealed her new album title: E·MO·TION. She also posted a dictionary definition to social media, in case fans needed a reminder: “noun (\i-ˈmō-shən\): a natural instinctive state of mind deriving from one’s circumstances, mood or relationships with others.”

To be fair, all music reckons with emotion one way or the other. Coming from the singer, though, this is exciting. Often, a Carly Rae Jepsen song is a total head rush, to where she’s often criticized for not acting her age. (She is 29.) But it’s also tough to deny just how close she often gets to showing just how gloriously goofy love can be. It’s as if she never wants to forget what that feels like — even though the older you get, the more jaded you can be over that sort of thing.
