Katy Tiz Interview
Katy Tiz talks catchy new single "Whistle (While You Work It)" and cracking America.

Katy Tiz has a hit on her hands with mood-lifting pop anthem “Whistle (While You Work It).” Produced by J.R. Rotem, the follow-up to surprise 2014 hit “The Big Bang” is rapidly gaining ground on pop radio and inching its way up iTunes. All that’s missing is a blockbuster video and the Brit remedies that situation with a winning live-action/animation hybrid.

Like Olivia Newton-John in ’80s cult classic Xanadu, Katy springs to life from street art. From there, the blond bombshell indulges in a little choreography with her girls, goes for a stroll with a crew of cartoon characters and gets her nails done. It deftly combines the live action and animation elements, and is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

“It blows my mind seeing a vision I had come to life,” the “Red Cup” singer reveals. “This video comes from my love of graffiti artwork and takes inspiration from some of the greatest fairytales of all time. I worked on this with Syndrome Studio and director James Larese, who is amazing to work with!” There’s another reason why Katy is particularly excited about “Whistle (While You Work It)” blowing up. “You may think this song is about going to the club and ‘working it’ but if you pay close attention to the lyrics, you’ll see it’s much deeper than that,” she says.

“We — Emily Warren, Kinetics, One Love and J.R. — wrote this about a darker period in my life where I felt like nothing was going my way,” Katy admits. “My brother was there to keep pushing me and told me to keep my chin up and keep it moving. No matter what you are going through in life, you have to be brave and not give up on yourself.” Watch the video up top.
