Ina Wroldsen Makes The Leap From Hit Songwriter To Pop Star With “Rebels”: Listen

The transition from hit songwriter to pop star isn’t always easy. For some it’s effortless (Meghan Trainor, LunchMoney Lewis and Bebe Rexha are good examples), but, more often than not, it’s a hard road. The latest songsmith to make the leap is Ina Wroldsen. The Norwegian’s resume includes Britney Spears’ “He About To Lose Me,” Shakira’s “Empire” and Pussycat Dolls’ “Hush Hush” — so it goes without saying that she knows how to write a great pop song.

The 30-year-old shares the second taste of her debut album today (April 23) and it’s poles apart from quirky lead single “Aliens (Her Er Jeg),” which includes the amazing lyric “workin’ like Rihanna, singin’ like Adele.” The furious electronic beats of that anthem give way to dreamy synths on “Rebels.” Ina’s latest sounds like two different songs cobbled together, but I’m strangely drawn to its inherent weirdness and pretty melodies.

Fans of the diva’s side-project Ask Embla, in particular, will find a lot to love about “Rebels.”
