Carly Rae Jepsen spoke about the evolution of her third LP E·MO·TION in a new interview with Digital Spy. The 29-year-old revealed that she was moving in an edgier direction way back in 2013, which resulted in the hitmaker recording a huge amount of material in order to calibrate her sound. “A lot of them were more experimental songs that I knew were never going to make the album,” she confesses.

Some of the tracks she recorded with artist/producer Dev Hynes, however, did make the cut including well-received buzz track “All That.” “He’s amazing,” Carly Rae raves. “I do truly feel like meeting people like Dev has helped my album take shape in a way that I was only dreaming about. The fact that some of the songs have actually made it through the trenches has made me really proud and happy.”

Another big name to spend some time in the studio with the Canadian pop star is Australian singer/songwriter Sia. “[She’s] fantastic and there’s a song that we worked on together with Greg Kurstin that I’m pretty excited to share,” she reveals. “It’s got a very ’80s flair to it, it’s kind of girl anthem-y, I think we were going for that.” It sounds like there’s a lot to look forward to on Carly Rae’s third LP. There’s no official US release date yet, but mid-summer seems very likely.
