Kanye West is one of this generation’s best live television performers, there’s just no getting around that, regardless of your thoughts on him or on the absurd spectacle of awards ceremonies. From his stirring spate of SNL appearances to his glow-in-the-dark Daft Punk collab at the Grammys to his crew bumrushing the BRIT Awards stage, West never mails it in for these gigs. It’s just hard to make a TV performance connect with viewers at home, but West consistently does it. And now he’ll have his first chance to do it at the Billboard Music Awards this Sunday (May 17).

Ye has been added to the roster of performers at this year’s BBMAs, making it the five-time BBMA winner and six-time chart-topper’s first performance at this event. It’ll also be his first television performance since changing the name of his album from So Help Me God to Swish, so if we had to guess, we’d say he’s going to find a way to work in some new material instead of simply trotting out “Only One” or “All Day” again.

West joins a list of performers that includes Mariah Carey, Britney Spears with Iggy Azalea, Nick Jonas, Hozier, Van Halen and more. The 2015 Billboard Music Awards air Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
