Rachel Platten Interview
Rachel Platten talks breakthrough hit "Fight Song," her EP and long road to the top.

Rachel Platten is living proof that persistence and passion pays off. The singer/songwriter spent more than a decade trying to get a foothold in the music industry, only to land a record deal — and massive hit single — when she contemplating whether it was time to throw in the towel. The 33-year-old channelled that struggle into “Fight Song,” which has already reached number 50 on the Billboard Hot 100 without a video or major promotion.

The late bloomer drops her similarly-titled EP today (May 12) and proves there’s more to her than uplifting, self-help anthems. (Not that the world couldn’t use more of them!) Previously released “Lone Ranger” is a country-tinged, hook-filled delight, which is begging for another opportunity to shine, while “Beating Me Up” is far less heavy than the title would suggest. The real surprise is raw break-up anthem “Congratulations,” which shows Rachel’s grittier side. Listen to all four tracks below.

1. “Fight Song”:

2. “Lone Ranger”:
