BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend: Watch Performances By Florence + The Machine, Fall Out Boy, Rita Ora And More
Taylor Swift was the biggest act to take the stage at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend, May 23 to 24 in Norvich, England. By performing “Bad Blood,” the 1989 schoolyard chant whose video just broke a Vevo record, she showed what is in store for her world tour. Essentially, as she recently told Rolling Stone, she is replacing banjos with synths, A-line dresses with sequined numbers, so that she appears to be a bigger superstar than ever before.
Meanwhile, the other Big Weekend acts showed just how diverse pop can actually be. There was Rita Ora, with the live debut of her straightforward new single “Poison.” There was Snoop Dogg, an increasingly reliable festival act, rap-singing off his new album Bush. And then there was Florence + the Machine, who channeled Fleetwood Mac in “Ship to Wreck.”
The festival also had pop rock acts galore, with 5 Seconds of Summer covering The Romantics‘ “What I Like About You,” Charli XCX performing from her new album Sucker and Fall Out Boy doing “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light ‘Em Up)” — their first chart hit in six years, upon its debut.
