Rob Thomas Returns With Ryan Tedder-Penned Pop/Rock Anthem “Trust You”: Listen

Rob Thomas released his last solo album Cradlesong way back in 2009. Admittedly, he rounded up Matchbox Twenty for 2012’s chart-topping North LP, but it still feels like a long time since we’ve heard the 43-year-old’s smooth vocals on the radio. That should change in the not-too-distant future with the arrival of new single “Trust You.” Produced by Ryan Tedder, the track puts a fresh twist on the veteran’s pop/rock sound.

An upbeat, hook-filled pop anthem with strong rhythmic elements, “Trust You” repositions the usually mellow rocker as a viable alternative to Maroon 5 for radio programmers. “When you say, ‘Hey c’mon’ I know I really, really want you. I trust you,” he sings. “When I stay I know I really ought to go but then I trust you.” It’s catchy, contemporary and might actually crossover to top 40 radio. Kudos to Rob for getting out of his comfort zone. “Trust You” is the first taste of his third solo LP The Great Unknown due later this summer.
