Melanie Martinez's "Carousel" gets a suitably creep, carnival-themed video. Watch.

Melanie Martinez found a whole new audience last year when nightmarish pop anthem “Carousel” was used in promos for American Horror Story: Freak Show. The track immediately shot up iTunes and shined a light on the diva’s oddball — in a good way — Dollhouse EP. She returns today (June 2) with “Pity Party,” the lead single from debut album Cry Baby (due August 14).

“Did my invitations disappear? Why’d I put my heart on every cursive letter?” she laments over gloomy synths. “Tell me why the hell no one is here? Tell me what to do to make it all feel better?” That leads us to the gloriously demented chorus, which interpolates Lesley Gore’s 1963 classic/original loner anthem “It’s My Party.” With this and Grace’s cover of “You Don’t Own Me,” there seems to be a revival of the late songbird’s music afoot. Watch Melanie’s quirky, self-directed video up top.
