Best known for his gorgeous remixes of Jose Gonzalez’s “Heartbeats” and Kodaline’s “High Hopes,” it’s only a matter of time until filous’ own music takes center stage. Particularly, if his debut EP (due July 17) lives up to the promise of title track “Dawn.” The Austrian concocts a pillowy electro-lullaby with a twist. Instead of using samples and studio trickery to create a dreamy soundscape, the 18-year-old plays all the instruments — with the exception of the kick drum — himself.

You see, filous — it’s French for rascal — was something of a child prodigy. While most kids were watching cartoons, he was learning how to play the bass, guitar and piano from YouTube tutorials. The teenager didn’t stop there, however. He can also play the harmonica, accordion and the didgeridoo. (Where do you even find one in Vienna?) The use of acoustic instruments imbues “Dawn” with a richness and warmth usually absent from electronica. Listen to the sleepy anthem below.
