Hear Dawn Richard’s Striking New Adult Swim Single “Running From Sane”
Dawn Richard (now going by D∆WN) continues to demonstrate that the breakup of Danity Kane is the best thing that’s ever happened to her art, releasing a pair of critically acclaimed full-lengths, Goldenheart and Blackheart, and a steady stream of visually and sonically arresting new material. Last month it was the mesmerizing “Titans x James Dean” video, and today she has dropped a bewitching new song for Adult Swim’s consistently excellent summer singles series.
“Running From Sane” is more electronica than pop, with Richards’ vocals only coming in after 90 seconds of Casio-wave future house, and even then they’re pitched way down. Her true voice doesn’t appear until the 2:00 mark, bursting through on the titular hook, showing the type of risk she’s willing to take as a solo artist.
