ZZ Ward Changes Lanes With “LOVE 3X”: Watch The Striking MIE-Directed Video

ZZ Ward’s debut LP Til The Casket Drops delivered a string of AAA radio-adored singles (“Put Down The Gun,” “Criminal” and “365 Days”) and established her a festival favorite. The singer/songwriter changes lanes, however, on the first taste of sophomore set This Means War (due September 18). “LOVE 3X” edges away from the bluesy rock of her early material in favor of a punchy, credible pop/rock sound that just has slightly broader appeal.

That change in direction is reflected in the deceptively wild video, which begins with ZZ singing against a white background but slowly evolves into an Alice In Wonderland-like adventure. “Working with MIE on the music video for ‘LOVE 3X was a wonderful experience,” the 29-year-old says of the studio that previously worked on Beyonce’s “Grown Woman” and Joey Bada$$’s “Christ Conscious.”

“They are talented directors and were such a joy to work with,” she continues. “It was so fun collaborating with them. I really feel like they helped my vision for the visual of this song come to life. They were a perfect team to make that happen.” Watch ZZ’s trippy visual up top and let us know if you love her new sound in the comments below.
