Kiiara Strikes “Gold” With Debut Single: Listen
Just how new to the scene is 20-year-old singer Kiiara? Well, her Twitter account has only been around for half a day. But you’d never know she was a n00b based on the self-assured sound of “Gold,” the first single off her debut EP, Meet Me In The Cornfield.
The Illinois singer sounds a bit like Ellie Goulding crossed with Lorde, and she was wise to pair up with SZA collaborator Felix Snow, who has given the track a nice balance of snappy percussion and warped atmospherics. The most intriguing part, though, would be the chorus. For the first hook she’s offering to the world, Kiiara has decided to chop it up like when your Discman used to skip during a jog. It’s equal parts disorienting and addictive, and the bold choice suggests she knows exactly what she wants to accomplish with this project.
The track was premiered over at The Fader. Hear it below.
