Lil Wayne Announces ‘Free Wayne Album’ For July 4

Lil Wayne‘s label situation is about as muddled as the field of Republican presidential hopefuls right now, but it’s looking like July 4 could serve as his Independence Day. The rapper’s long, slow falling out with Cash Money has left his planned Tha Carter V in release purgatory, to the point that he has already moved on to his next project, Free Weezy Album. And on Tuesday (June 16), during an Anaheim show he announced FWA will drop on the holiday.

Obviously, unplanned live announcements of release dates are to be approached with a healthy dose of skepticism, but Weezy did recently make it clear he’s part of Tidal, so if he were to release an album on short notice with no label support, he’s got the platform for it now.

Watch him make the announcement below.
