Lauryn Hill Covers Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good”
Ever since Nina Simone‘s standard-setting 1965 rendition of “Feeling Good,” everyone from Muse to The Pussycat Dolls has taken a stab at it. The latest cover of the classic from Ms. Lauryn Hill, whose take serves as the first single off Nina Revisited: A Tribute to Nina Simone. The compilation is being released in conjunction with Netflix’s Nina Simone documentary, What Happened, Miss Simone?, and in addition to Hill it features Usher, Mary J. Blige, Common, Simone’s daughter Lisa and more.
“Because I fed on this music, both [Nina’s] and lovers like her, like my basic food, I believed I always had a right to have a voice,” Hill said in a statement. “Her example is clearly a form of sustenance to a generation needing to find theirs. What a gift.”
According to Rolling Stone, Hill was only supposed to contribute two songs to the album, but all that inspiration led to her providing six tracks and serving as a co-producer.
