Usher has spent much of the past year churning out collaborations — with everyone from Migos to a cartoon cereal honey bee. And his latest project is a collaboration of sorts, a cover of Nina Simone‘s jaunty rendition of “My Baby Just Cares For Me.”

As is frequently the case when Usher takes on a downtempo track, this has the feel of a bedroom R&B jam, much sultrier than the version we’re all used to hearing. Though Simone recorded the song back in 1958, it gained steam in the ’80s after soundtracking a Chanel No. 5 ad and getting that ultimate form of ’80s veneration, a claymation music video.

Below, hear Usher’s take, as well as Lauryn Hill‘s seven-minute odyssey “Black Is The Color Of My True Love’s Hair,” her third contribution to the compilation following “Feeling Good” and “I’ve Got Life.”

The covers appear on Nina Revisited: A Tribute To Nina Simone, which is being released in conjunction with the documentary What Happened, Miss Simone?, which premieres June 26 on Netflix.
