What's Wrong With Rihanna's 'R8' Era?
Rihanna isn't firing on all cylinders this era. We analyze what went wrong for the diva.

Rihanna’s R8 era came to a screeching halt when “Bitch Better Have My Money” and “American Oxygen” underperformed, but things could be back on track. Mitus (he also produced “Only If For A Night”) teased a new track on Instagram today (June 23) called “The Deep End.” And while the hitmaker hasn’t officially stated that it’s RiRi, he has spent the last hour retweeting ecstatic reactions from The Navy. So put two and two together.

The cut itself sounds completely different from anything else we’ve heard from R8. “The Deep End” is an eerie electronic instrumental, which sounds like something Arca might cook up for FKA Twigs. I love this direction for Rihanna, but it raises some questions about the album. Is it going to be a hot mess of disparate genres (so far we’ve had a folk song, a generic ballad, a trap anthem and now alt-R&B) or will some of the early singles be cut?

Mitus teases “The Deep End”:

but maybe I should take this down….#mitusbeats #thedeepend
