Adam Levine Goes Solo On "Lost Stars": Listen
Adam Levine charms on 'Begin Again' soundtrack cut "Lost Stars." Listen to it here.

After releasing 15 (!!) mixtapes, R. City are gearing up to release their debut EP via RCA Records this summer. The long-overdue set is spearheaded by infectious, reggae-tinged bop “Locked Away,” which features Adam Levine’s vocals and production from Dr. Luke and Cirkut. So, how did these (sort of) newcomers hook up with such heavyweights? Well, they have a long history of writing hits for other artists.

Comprised of brothers Theron and Timothy Thomas, R. City are best known for penning Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop,” Rihanna’s “Pour It Up,” Fergie’s “L.A. Love (La La)” and Nicki Minaj’s “Only” — among many other hits. They clearly know their way around a radio-ready jam and that’s evident from the first 30 seconds of “Locked Away.”

“If I got locked away and we lost it all today, tell me honestly would you still love me the same?” Adam Levine croons over piano. “If I showed you my flaws, if I couldn’t be strong, tell me honestly would you still love me the same?” That’s when the Thomas brothers come in and deliver their verses over mellow reggae beats. Don’t be too surprised if this blows up over the next couple of months. It has the kind of demographic-bridging appeal of a Bruno Mars ballad. Check it out below.
