Melanie Martinez teases debut LP 'Cry Baby' with her demented "Pit Party" video.

Melanie Martinez shares another taste of debut LP Cry Baby (due August 14) with bubbly — literally, wait for the drop — promo single “Soap.” It follows the June arrival of delightfully depressing lead single “Pity Party,” which samples expertly Lesley Gore’s 1963 classic “It’s My Party.” While not quite as miserable as that bop, the 20-year-old’s latest anthem is a typically dark adventure about the benefits of keeping your mouth shut.

“I feel it comin’ out my throat, guess I better wash my mouth out with soap,” Melanie sings over gloomy synths in the chorus. “God I wish I never spoke, now I gotta wash my mouth out with soap.” That’s when the above-mentioned bubble-drop kicks in — taking the track to a whole new level. At this rate, the Dollhouse diva’s debut LP is shaping up to be one of 2015’s kookiest pop offerings. Listen to “Soap” below.
