We talk to legends Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe about 'Electric'.

A bit more information regarding the rough release time frame for the next Pet Shop Boys studio album has come along, thanks to the duo’s vocalist, Neil Tennant. This past Friday (July 10) marked the singer’s birthday, and in a “thank you” note to fans for their greetings posted on the pair’s official site, Tennant took the opportunity to shed some light on the upcoming PSBs LP.

“Thanks for all your messages and birthday wishes,” Tennant wrote. “They helped to make my birthday very happy! Neil x x P.S. Since a lot of you asked: the new album looks likely for release in March next year!”

In late June, the Pet Shop Boys’ site stated that the duo’s final shows on their Electric Tour “will be followed by holidays for Neil and Chris after which they’ll commence working with Stuart Price on the production of their next album due to be released next year.” Pet Shop Boys’ 12th studio album Electric, also produced by Price, was released in July 2013.

“We like the same things, so it’s a very natural thing for us to work with Stuart,” Chris Lowe told Idolator that year. “It was effortless, really. When we were writing some of these dance songs [for Electric], we clearly imagined Stuart producing them.”

Electric marked Tennant and Lowe’s first release on their own x2 label, following a previous career-long association with Parlophone in their home country of Great Britain. The album wound up becoming their highest-charting for the pair in both the UK (where it reached #3) and the US (#26) since 1993’s seminal Very.
