OMI’s “Cheerleader” Is The New #1 Song In The Country
In the year OMI‘s song “Cheerleader” was originally released, stuff like “Somebody That I Used To Know,” “We Are Young” and “Call Me Maybe” was filling up the airwaves. But three years and one remix later, “Cheerleader” has transformed into a global phenomenon, and has topped the charts in nearly 20 different countries.
The US is the latest territory to embrace Felix Jaehn‘s remix of “Cheerleader,” with the song now bumping Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth‘s “See You Again” off the top of the Billboard Hot 100. The latter spent 12 non-consecutive weeks at #1, having been interrupted for one brief week of its reign by Taylor Swift‘s “Bad Blood.”
As Billboard points out, “Cheerleader” is now the first #1 single in the States to be released on Ultra Records, a once-independent dance music label founded 20 years ago that merged with Sony in 2013.
For those keeping track, “Cheerleader” follows “Uptown Funk,” “See You Again” and “Bad Blood” as only the fourth single to hit the top of the Hot 100 in 2015.
